Matthew (Matt) Holmes, MD has been practicing Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine for more than 15 years. Since 2004, he has served as a psychiatrist for Meridian Behavioral Health Services, providing clinical leadership for a multi-disciplinary team that addresses significant mental health and substance abuse issues in the community. From 2009 to 2017 he served as Meridian’s Medical Director.
Previously, he served as an Addiction Medicine Consultant for the Governors Institute, Medical Director for the Mountain Area Recovery Center (later Behavior Health Group) Opioid Treatment Program, Contract Psychiatrist for Haywood Regional Hospital and as Adult Psychiatrist for the Smoky Mountain Center.
He has presented at professional conferences on topics ranging from controlled substance prescribing and medication treatment in opioid addiction to medication assisted treatment during pregnancy.
He received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville Tennessee, then attended Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. He completed his Psychiatric Residency at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He has Board certification in Psychiatry and is certified in Addiction Medicine by the American Board of Addiction Medicine.
